Over the past 10 episodes; fans have witnessed everything from seemingly innocuous teen partying gone wrong to petty backbiting to hierarchical savagery—which is both appalling and understandable, considering the team was forced to bury their head coach and several teammates and scavenge for food, all while surviving wolf attacks, adolescent betrayals, seemingly supernatural forces and cannibalism. The good news about Yellowjackets’ Season 2 renewal, of course, is that we’ll get more Yellowjackets, but the bad news is that any answers we’re searching for about what exactly went down in the woods are part of “a longer story” (as series star MelanieLynskey, who plays the adult version of Shauna, told NPR), meaning many of our questions are going to linger until the series returns for its second season. Until then, let’s parse out fans’ most burning Yellowjackets questions and theories about what went down in 1996, what secrets the girls may have been hiding then (or still may be hiding now) and more. (Warning: Spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen all 10 episodes of Yellowjackets Season!!)
Who is Adam on Yellowjackets?
The now-unhappily-married Shauna seemed to get her groove back while frolicking with her lover Adam (Peter Gadiot) throughout Season 1, but she grew leery of him after discovering the lies he’d told her about his background—so leery, in fact, that she wound up fatally stabbing him. With no internet presence, it’s clear that Adam wasn’t who he pretended to be, but viewers have spent weeks nursing a theory: Could it be that Adam was actually the grown-up Javi (Luciano Leroux), Coach Martinez’s youngest son and Travis’ brother, who was stranded with the team in the wilderness? As pointed out by Buzzfeed and other outlets, there seemed to be several Adam/Javi parallels, such as Javi’s interest in art and the tattoo on Adam’s back of a mountain range, which bore resemblance to the cryptic symbol that appears throughout the forest and on the mysterious postcards received in 2021 by Misty (Christina Ricci) and Natalie (Juliette Lewis). Javi and teen Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) shared some moments during their time together and it’s unclear where he’s at in 2021, but if he really was Adam, wouldn’t she recognize him even 25 years later? Another theory: Now that we know (or at least, now that it seems) that there’s an entire shadow organization/syndicate in 2021 that’s carrying out evil-doing while sporting pendants with that same symbol (i.e. the people who kidnapped Natalie), is it possible Adam was working for them? That might explain why he had a tattoo that looked like the symbol, why he had books and magazines in his apartment about the Yellowjackets crash, and perhaps why he pursued Shauna in the first place. It would also jibe with something Yellowjackets co-creator AshleyLyle told Entertainment Tonight ahead of the Season 1 finale. “I will say that [Adam], as an entity, is something that will be a bit of a wrench in the works for Shauna and the Sadecki family moving forward,” Lyle said. “And, of course, the rest of the women by proxy. He will be a thing that continues to haunt the Yellowjackets moving forward.”
Who killed Travis on Yellowjackets?
Theories about who killed Travis in 2021 abound. Some of them are completely plausible (whoever the killer is, it’s probably someone we haven’t met yet), while others are laughable (could it have been Caligula, Misty’s bird???!?). Looking at photos from the scene of Travis’ death, Misty pieced together that someone used candles to form a pattern on the floor of the barn that, if you connect the dots, look like that ominous symbol from the woods. And now that we know that there’s an organization that sports that symbol and is capable of going around and kidnapping crash survivors in 2021, it’s not much of stretch to think that the same group is responsible for Travis’ murder—especially since, as Natalie was being taken, she received a voice mail from her former sponsor, Suzie, telling her that Lottie (CourtneyEaton) had emptied Travis’ bank account at the time of his death. Woah! So now it seems Lottie is alive in 2021 (or at least that someone is using her name) and, from what we’ve seen so far, none of the other alive-in-2021 characters know that. But how did Lottie get access to Travis’s bank account (especially considering that the show made a point of mentioning that only a family member would be able to do so)? That remains to be seen. If it’s someone else from the woods who killed Travis, it could be Taissa (Tawny Cypress) since she is capable of almost anything while sleepwalking, or it could be Misty, since she seemed to figure out that crime-scene pattern a bit too easily. Another theory: The “reporter,” Jessica Roberts (who was hired by Taissa to spy on the others), said she visited Travis shortly before Misty and Natalie found him dead. Did she have something to do with his death?
Who else is still alive in 2021 on Yellowjackets?
In flashbacks to 1996, we see that the plane crash survivors include Nat (Sophie Thatcher), Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown), Travis (Kevin Alves), Shauna, Jackie (Ella Purnell), Misty (Samantha Hanratty), Coach Scott (Steven Krueger), Akilah (Keeya King), Javi, Van (Liv Hewson), Laura Lee (Jane Widdop), Mari (Alexa Barajas), Lottie (Courtney Eaton) and about 10 other unnamed team members. Yet only Travis, Shauna, Taissa, Natalie and Misty are confirmed as having made it to 2021… and also, it seems as of the finale, Lottie. Of course, if Lottie’ still alive, then that could mean that any of the survivors we haven’t seen yet in 2021 might be. Which is encouraging, as some theorists on Reddit are calling for fan-favorite Van to make an appearance in 2021 as well. https://www.reddit.com/r/Yellowjackets/comments/rynryj/i_really_think_van_is_still_alive/
Who is the pit girl on Yellowjackets?
Which girl were we watching way back in episode 1 who ran through the woods only to fall to her death into a pit of spikes? A close-up of her impaled body showed a necklace with a heart pendant that had been worn by Jackie. Initial theories were certain that it was Jackie due to how her conceited, mean-girl demeanor quickly wore on her teammates’ nerves, while other theories on Reddit predicted that because of the girl’s height and dark hair, it’s Lottie. Well, it seems pretty unlikely at this point that it’s Lottie, who not only seems more and more likely to be the Antler Queen (see below), but who also seems likely to still be alive in 2021. And it’s not Jackie, we can probably safely surmise, given that we now know how she died in 1996. Some fans have thought that maybe that opening scene was actually one of the clairvoyant visions from Lottie whose past premonitions have come true. https://www.reddit.com/r/Yellowjackets/comments/rzfubl/pit_girlopening_scene_theory/ Hive members on Facebook have said that Mari, who quickly aligned with Jackie and has dark hair like Lottie, is a strong possibility.
Who is Antler Queen on Yellowjackets?
From the first episode, cannibalism is implied when pit girl meets her demise and afterward, a group of people covered from head to toe in animal hides gather around a fire for mealtime. In the scene, an unknown character who fans have come to dub “The Antler Queen” wears a crown of deer antlers and mesh that obscures her face. Once she gives her nod of approval, the group feasts on what is believed to be one of their teammates. She is clearly the HBIC—and the only person ruled out as being her was Misty, because she was wearing a different get-up and uncovered her face as the pilot episode ended. Most of the citizen detectives on social media have pegged Lottie as the AQ, and it seems likely they may be right. Actress Eaton all but confirmed that she is indeed the Antler Queen during a recent chat with Vulture, where she talked about what it was like to put on the AQ’s “deer crown.” Her Antler Queen coronation was also strongly hinted at around the middle of Season 1, when an otherwise-throwaway shot of Lottie was framed to make it look like the antlers from a stuffed deer head on the wall of the cabin were coming out of her head. Lottie later fashioned herself what looked like an antler crown made out of sticks for the girls’ “Doomcoming” party. Plus, at the very end of the finale, she was seen in 1996 leading Van and Misty to a tree stump almost as if it were an altar, offering up the heart of the bear they killed and kneeling before it. That came after Lottie (who has premonitions that could certainly prove helpful in a life-or-death survival situation) said during the Doomcoming that the group wouldn’t be hungry much longer.
What happened to Jackie on Yellowjackets?
It seems this is one mystery the show has solved for us: Jackie froze to death in 1996. The morning after the Doomcoming, Jackie’s nasty behavior led to an eye-opening argument between her and Shauna. Fed up with Jackie, the others back Shauna when she tells her to leave the cabin and sleep outside in the cold. That night, Shauna dreams that she has convinced Jackie to come back inside. The dream soon morphs into a nightmare as Jackie notices that the others are now joined by a strange man (shown in the show’s intro) who is looming in the doorway to the attic. When Shauna awakens, she discovers that it has snowed and her BFF Jackie has frozen to death after not being able to start a fire to stay warm overnight. (Question: Will we see in Season 2 that Jackie becomes her teammates’ first foray into cannibalism?) By the way, Lyle did confirm to ET that the mystery guy from the credits would pop up in the finale, but she said nothing more. Look for him to start having a storyline in Season 2. Oh, and one more thing about Jackie: She’s not a time-traveler, as some fans suspected due to her circa-1996 journal—which, if you pause and look closely, lists movies she wrote down that she loves, despite the fact that they came out after 1996. However, Lyle point-blank told ET, “Jackie is not a time-traveler… Like, hard no."
What happened to Shauna’s baby on Yellowjackets?
As if a girl lost in the woods didn’t have enough to deal with, teen Shauna also realized she was pregnant shortly after the crash. (The father? Jackie’s high-school boyfriend-slash-Shauna’s future husband, Jeff.) Leading up to the Season 1 finale, the series has made no mention so far of what happened to her pregnancy: Did she actually give birth or somehow lose the baby in utero? And if she did deliver, where is her child now and why doesn’t Shauna-in-2021 ever seem to think about that? Does Jeff even know he got Shauna pregnant back then? Doing the math, there’s no way their now-teenage daughter in 2021 is the baby she was carrying in 1996. Some fans have theorized that the baby grew up to be Adam, but the math doesn’t work out on that either (unless you believe Adam looks 25, which we don’t). We’ll table this one for now, but it’ll likely pop back up in season 2.
Who sent the postcards on Yellowjackets?
Finding out that Jeff was the one blackmailing adult Shauna and her crew was a bit underwhelming, albeit plausible, as keeping his furniture store afloat is clearly very important to him. The fact that we now know who the blackmailer was and why he did it also means that we’re back to square one in solving who sent the “Wish You Were Here” postcards with that cryptic symbol. (Of course, there’s no return address due to them being sent from an online service.) It seems like the shadow organization that kidnapped Natalie is certainly suspect, although some Twitter theorists believe it may be Taissa’s sleepwalking alter ego who sent them. This is still a possibility, since it was revealed in the finale that she killed the family dog, Biscuit—and that she seems to have an altar or shrine of her own hidden in her house, complete with that symbol! Another theory is that they were sent by the maniacal Misty, who’s not only crazy enough to send one to herself, but also may still have an alliance with Lottie that’s secretly lasted into 2021. One suspicion most people agree on? Whoever killed Travis also sent those postcards. Next, Did the World End? Don’t Look Up Ending Explained—Including That Insane Post-Credits Scene
