Hallmark delves into the world of soap operas with their latest Summer Nights flick, A Little Daytime Drama.
What is A Little Daytime Drama about?
Maggie (Jen Lilley) is the head writer on a soapy daytime drama whose declining ratings leave it in danger of being canceled. Alice (Linda Dano), the creator and producer of the show, wants to retire and hopes to pass the baton to Maggie. Wanting to boost ratings and save the show, Alice plans to bring back fan-favorite actor Darin (Ryan Paevey), who also happens to be Maggie’s ex-boyfriend. When Darin exited the show to star in an ill-fated play, their relationship ended on a sour note, so Maggie wrote out his character. Now, she must convince Darin to return. Will they be able to set aside their old, hurt feelings and work together to save the show, and their careers, in the process?

Lilley starred as Theresa Donovan on Days of our Lives and even had a short stint on General Hospital (though at a different juncture than Paevey’s time on the show). Her first Hallmark film was A Dash of Love with Brendan Penny.

Paevey’s first series regular role was that of Nathan West on General Hospital. Unleashing Mr. Darcy was his first starring role in a Hallmark movie. He followed that up with Harvest Love opposite Jen Lilley.

Dano’s soap opera career started with ABC’s One Life to Live, but it was her turn as romance novelist Felicia Gallant on Another World that won her a Daytime Emmy award for Leading actress.
